Our dear friend Tendai Kumire is employed, responsible, and resilient, but she has been forced to deal with more personal tragedy and grief than any one person should have to handle. That’s why we have teamed up to create this GoFundMe request.

Born in Zimbabwe, Tendai moved to the United States to complete her college degree after the tragic loss of her mother. Although she received much support while living in the United States, unfortunately she also experienced emotional distress and racism during her stay. She was not allowed to stay in the United States after graduation two years ago, so she moved to Canada.

Canada has been the first place Tendai has been able to create a home for herself where she has felt safe. She was able to find an immigration lawyer to help her with the long journey towards permanent residency. She found a job and by working non-stop, she saved up enough money to pay nearly $2000 of her attorney’s fees.

Tragically, last week when she met with her attorney, she discovered that he had mishandled her case and had done virtually nothing to prepare the case for the hearing that was scheduled for later this month. The fees she paid him will now be lost.

Fortunately, Tendai has found a competent attorney to represent her who understands her situation and the urgency of her case, but now she is forced to completely start over with her attorney’s fees.

Anything you can contribute to her attorney’s fees will be appreciated, but more than that, it will show her that people can be good and kind and supportive. We hope to restore her hope in humanity and in goodness.

And if you can’t afford to contribute, we hope that your awareness of Tendai’s story will help you to want to be kind and to reach out to the marginalized and the misrepresented in any way that you can.
