On September 22, 2024, our family member, Artemio “Temo” Vega suffered a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and sustained multiple injuries due to an ATV accident. Our family is devastated by this tragedy but the fact that he survived and continues to fight is a testament to his strength and will. 

Temo spent the first two weeks following the accident at Natividad Medical Center where he underwent a craniectomy (brain surgical procedure). He spent most of his time in a medically induced coma pending the swelling/bleeding in his brain and his reliance on the ventilator. On Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, Temo miraculously regained minimal consciousness and continues to make incredible progress. Since then, he has been released from the ICU and moved to Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Center to continue his recovery.

The road to recovery from a TBI is long, unpredictable, and challenging. Temo will require intensive therapy, which can be very expensive, even with insurance. We are reaching out to our community for any support you can offer to Temo with the financial burden of his recovery.

This will include medical bills not covered by insurance, inpatient rehabilitation followed by outpatient rehabilitation, in-home care, and medical equipment, occupational and speech therapies to regain his cognitive abilities.
