Support Teko Photography to Mexica New Year 2022

Mexica New Year 

 

This is Tomas Alejo from Teko Photography. I am reaching out to my community for support with an upcoming project happening March 11-13, 2022 in San Jose, California. The event is Mexica New Year 2022! 

 

I have been blessed with this opportunity to document this critical ceremony and celebration bringing together the dances and ceremony of Indigenous people of California and Mexico. I have participated in the past and have presented my work through several galleries and within academic institutions. I always share my final images with participants and host groups at no cost. Almost all of my photography work expenses come out of my own pocket. Days off from work are my own personal and vacation days.

 

Since the beginning of the pandemic, all of my paid photography work has mostly paused. Therefore, for this 2022 Mexica New Year, I am asking my community for a little help with travel and equipment expenses. With this support I will continue to do community presentations of the work. All images will be shared (as in the past) with participants, supporters and event hosts on social media.

 

This funding goes to my travel and to subsidize special camera and lighting equipment, allowing me to capture studio-quality images. No donation is too small. Everything (even prayers) are very much appreciated.
