I am Tedo Rekhviashvili, painter..
I paint since I was child as far as I remember. As art has always been the best way of letting my internal universe out of my mind, it was only profession that I could feel as my own. Since my conscious life, drawing was the most significant part of me. Now I am an artist.
This spring I was accepted to New York Academy of Art. I was chosen among top applicants and got the biggest study grant, which is 15000$, but it's just 30% of the entire tuition fee and I still have to get 23000$ to continue study in New York. I was preparing for 2 years to apply for New York Academy of Art. I was preparing my works for exam and also learning English language for several hours per day, as working language for lectures is English. It's hard, it's not easy. Getting accepted was also very hard, I had to have good portfolio. And being among top applicants and getting biggest grant, was big happiness for me.
I and my family were living in Abkhazia, Gagra, but because of war in 1992 we were forced to leave our home, we lost everything – house, homeland, neighbors, relatives, friends…. Initially we moved to Akhaltsikhe, but as my brother, Tornike had first group cerebral palsy and needed very high qualified medical support, my mother brought us to Tbilisi and we started new life, which included lots of problems. We were very young: my brother, my sister and me and my mother had to deal with everything alone, but she managed because our family is very friendly and supportive. From early childhood we learned that no work is shameful, it’s a big honor to be professional at any job position and it’s necessary to study all your life to become a real professional.
My life is tied with painting, I love working with color, I love bringing out my inner emotions and messages using color. And colors help me to describe my inner world. I dedicate my life to my family and painting as well as my family is dedicating themselves to support me to become real artist.
I am interested in various sciences like philosophy, psychology, physics and astronomy; I pay much attention and efforts to issues like mankind and its future, human existence in the past, present and future and its interaction to universe. I think my view-point is emotional and global. I’m aspired to monumental painting.
owing to my long hard work I could accumulate considerable knowledge and experience in figure drawing, in creating composition works, painting, graphic technique (etching, lithography, linocut, xylography) as well as in sculpture, mural painting and graphic design.
Studying at New York Academy of Art is a great challenge for me - my main goal, alongside with self-development, is to bring knowledge and experience to my country and continue doing what I do: art projects and pedagogic work, to become a bridge between western and Georgian cultures and art. In future I plan to find educational space with western standards in Georgia.
I hope that there are a lot of kind people around, who believe that one more young man will fulfill his dreams and become good artist and make other’s life also beautiful and interesting.
