Update: Teddy Needs More Help With New Medical Issues

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an update about my sweet Teddy, my 10-year-old Shih Tzu, who many of you kindly helped when he was struggling with seizures. Your generosity truly made a difference in his care, and I am forever grateful.

Over the past few months, Teddy’s health has unfortunately become more complicated. He continues to battle a seizure disorder and takes multiple medications daily — phenobarbital, blood pressure medication, Plavix (a blood thinner), and allergy medicine. Even with all of this support, new and unexpected health issues have developed.

What’s happening now

Teddy recently developed a large tumor at the base of his tail. His doctor says it is inoperable, so we’re monitoring it closely. I would like to get a second opinion, but haven't been able to financially.

He also has a severe rash that has not responded to medication. It’s extremely red, itchy, and painful, and he has to wear a cone 24/7 so he won’t lick or irritate it, this has been going on for about 2 weeks.

A steroid was prescribed to help clear the rash, but after his very first dose, he had seizure activity, so I had to stop the medication immediately.

Teddy now needs a culture test to determine which medication will safely treat the rash without triggering more seizures.

This morning, when I removed his cone briefly, the area under his nose and around his upper mouth was bleeding and swollen. He was pawing at it and seemed to be in pain.

He has also had a few episodes of being disoriented and somewhat unresponsive, which is extremely frightening.

Why I’m asking for help again

Teddy needs to go in for additional testing and treatment, including a culture to properly identify the infection and the right medication. With his seizure disorder and the number of medications he’s already on, his care has become financially overwhelming. I love this little guy more than anything, and I am doing everything I can to keep him comfortable and stable.
