Hi, my name is Sarah Mikkelsen and I’m reaching out on behalf of my dad, Ted Mikkelsen.

If you know my dad, you know he’s spent his life serving others. He dedicated his career to law enforcement and later ran a rifle range for the Department of Natural Resources. He’s always been an outdoorsman at heart—happiest when he’s hunting, fishing, or just spending time outside. He’s strong, independent, and proud. And now, he needs our help.

In 2020 and 2021, my dad suffered a series of strokes and a brain bleed that forced him to stop working. Recently, on April 21, 2025, he was admitted to MUSC after we discovered he was having multiple seizures—up to 18 per hour. Doctors placed him into a medically induced coma to calm his brain and allow them to test different medications. After many trials, they were able to find two medications that help control the seizures and give him a chance at living more comfortably.

My dad is currently in a rehab facility but will soon be discharged to live with his elderly mother. Unfortunately, we’ve learned that he has no pharmacy coverage, and the medications he desperately needs are expensive. We’re also trying to prepare easy-to-heat meals and provide basic care items to make this next chapter a little easier for him and our family.

We’re asking for help with:

• Ongoing medical expenses and treatments

• Seizure medications not covered by insurance

• Prepared meals and supplies for at-home care

• Any unexpected costs during his recovery
