Hello! My name is TeAsia Holliman, and I am currently a first-year medical student at Creighton University School of Medicine. This summer, I have been given the incredible opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic through the ILAC Summer Health Program, where I will volunteer, provide basic medical care, and learn directly from the communities we serve.
I am deeply grateful to have been accepted into this flagship Creighton-ILAC program and am excited for the opportunity to grow as a future physician while serving others. I am currently fundraising to help cover the costs of this experience, and any support, whether through a donation or by sharing this post, would mean the world to me.
As an ILAC participant, I will be living and working in one of the campos, rural villages in the Dominican Republic, alongside local partners. In these communities, we will help provide health education and clinical support while also learning about Dominican culture, history, and lived experiences. This program emphasizes a true exchange of gifts, where service and learning go hand in hand.
I will be joined by approximately 55-60 students and 25-30 healthcare professionals from across disciplines including medicine, nursing, dentistry, and pharmacy. Every participant is volunteering their time and skills to help expand access to healthcare in rural communities while building meaningful relationships across cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic boundaries.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal and for supporting both my medical education and the communities I will serve and learn from along the way.
