Support "Tearable Neighbors" - a film inspired by The Burbs

My name is Dan Bringhurst. I'm the writer and director responsible for the upcoming feature length independent film "Tearable Neighbors". My Producer is Sheldon Demke, with whom I recently completed the feature length film Jesterpus - a Musical Comedy of Horrors (currently in line for consideration on the festival circuit).

The film is inspired by Joe Dante's "The Burbs", with a focus on the eighties aesthetic, laugh-out-loud comedy, buckets of blood, and some of the funniest character moments I've ever had the pleasure of writing. See the bottom of this letter for a synopsis.

The whole movie will cost a minimum of $10,000 to make. That's locations, props, catering, costumes, and paying our talented actors. We can begin filming with as little as $1000, and we will, but we need to pay the crew for their hard work.

This money will expedite filming by more quickly securing locations, getting the best props and costumes available, and by simply showing the cast that they're valued.

The script is done, the miniature sets have been built and filmed, the cast is assembled, and all that's left is to pay for exterior locations and an hourly wage to those who are arguably the most talented actors and actresses south of Salt Lake City.

My Producer Sheldon Demke and I are excited to begin filming, and it's this funding that will make it possible.

SYNOPSIS:

A group of neighbors becomes increasingly suspicious of some strange characters who appear to have taken up residence in the home of an old woman who hasn't been seen in months. A combination of loud noises and missing neighbors leads to a boiling point where they snoop so much that they're caught and consequently invited to dinner, in a tone that might as well have been at gunpoint.

They suffer a three course meal that becomes increasingly demented and the two leads take this time to explore the house. In the end it's discovered that the home was once a children's hospital - a sanctuary for troubled kids - and the head mistress was the old woman these people have hidden away somewhere in the house.

They were children themselves, once having suffered at the hands of the head mistress and now they've returned to reclaim the only home they'd ever known and to take revenge on the old woman who tortured them as children nearly 50 years earlier.

In the interim they've been continuing her hard work, luring people into the house, crushing them with the garbage compactor in the basement, and lining the inner walls with their corpses. It comes to a head as things take a turn for the paranormal and we discover it was always the house that wanted the bodies.
