Team Gambia 2025 - Abuko Nursery and Lower Basic School

Hi I’m Ruby, a 17-year-old student currently attending Solihull Sixth Form College. I feel very privileged to have been accepted for Team Gambia 2025.

Team Gambia is a volunteering project that raises money for the Abuko Nursery and Lower Basic School near Serrakunda in West Africa.

This November I will be travelling to Gambia to help support the children as they learn and provide them with the best experiences possible to enable them to have a better start in life and the opportunities they deserve.

Since 2013 the Team Gambia project has grown and grown with Solihull Sixth Form students raising money to help the community in Abuko. With the help of the students and their fundraising over the past 10 years the nursery school now comprises of 8 classrooms and a library, it has enabled the funding of teachers, provided vital teaching resources and also replaced a water pump, but there are still lots that we can do to help.

Over the coming months I will be taking part in various smaller fundraising events however in order for me to support these children as much as possible your help would be greatly appreciated.

Any contribution big or small you make will go towards supplies, resources, repairs etc as well as ensuring the sustainability of the school for years to come. I am so excited to be part of this experience and make a difference to the lives of these children.
