Odyssey of the Mind is an international creativity competition that helps students develop skills in problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork, math, language arts, science, writing, engineering, and the performing arts (http://www.odysseyofthemind.com).
Each year teams of 5-7 students choose from five different problems to solve. This year, the team from Carolyn Clark Elementary chose the problem "Opposite's Distract". For this problem, the team had to prove that disagreements can distract groups from seeing the bigger picture. They wrote an original script, created all of their own props, scenery, and costumes, and learned about teamwork and creativity along the way!
Around ~800 teams from 26 countries and the United States will compete in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University in late May, and Carolyn Clark Elementary has qualified to compete!
What will it take for our team to attend?
$8000 for students and chaperone/parent for campus housing and meals for 5 nights/6 days (about $1330 per student)
$ 900 to ship our scenery, props, and costumes to Iowa
$5100 for student and chaperone for air travel and ground transportation ($425 each person, 6 students and 6 chaperones)
Our goal is to raise $14,000 to cover the above expenses, and we kindly request that you help fund our team. We will deeply appreciate any assistance you can provide to help our team get to Michigan State University for the World Finals competition. Your contribution will go a long way towards providing these talented students with a once in a lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents, meet students from other countries, and proudly represent the region at an international venue. Thank you!!
