A New Way to Make Fresh Water — Powered by Gravity
Every day, over 2 billion people face water scarcity and 'Day Zero' (the moment when water must be restricted or rationed) is rapidly approaching for billions more.
To help solve this enormous global problem, we are developing a radically simple solution — one that harnesses gravity to turn seawater into drinkable water.
We're not just dreaming. Our system has been selected to participate in the XPRIZE Water Scarcity competition and awarded seed-funding following a rigorous evaluation by a panel of 19 leading desalination experts from around the world.
Why This Matters:
Current desalination systems are expensive, energy-intensive, and often out of reach for the people that need it most.
Our approach flips that model. It’s:
• ✅ Low or no energy
• ✅ Powered primarily by weight, not fuel
• ✅ Designed for off-grid and disaster-prone regions
• ✅ Uses established technology and off-the-shelf components
We're in Stealth Mode:
Right now, we’re keeping some of our technology confidential as we continue development.
But here's what we can say:
• Selected by the XPRIZE Water Scarcity Judging Panel (Track A)
• Awarded XPRIZE Water Scarcity grant to advance development
• Granted a U.S. patent for our gravity-driven desalination system
• Patents pending for gravity-generated artificial lift, and energy storage systems
• Pro bono patent filings provided by New York Law School (NYLS)
• Prototype currently under assembly in Royal Oak, Michigan

What People Are Saying:
“We are thrilled that the XPRIZE Water Scarcity is offering this extension” said Tom Wither, Founder of Archimedes Desal™. “As the only Michigan team, we’ll be competing with some of the world’s largest corporations and research institutes —this provides our talented team of engineers and skilled-tradesmen additional time to take on this ‘Rocky’-style challenge.”
“New York Law School is pleased to support this groundbreaking project through our pro bono program. We believe in fostering innovation that addresses urgent global challenges, and this project is a great example of that mission in action.” — Professor Shahrokh Falati, New York Law School.

Jose Perez, Vancouver, BC. “Over four decades in municipal water, wastewater infrastructure and marine engineering have shown me that reliability, material selection, and long-term performance are what ultimately define successful systems. Having worked extensively with flow control, pressurized environments, and corrosion-resistant design, I see strong merit in the Archimedes-Desal™ concept. A gravity-driven reverse osmosis approach has the potential to simplify system architecture and reduce energy demand, and I am pleased to support the continued development of this important technology.
WaterQuest Solutions, Bruce Hickin, CEO, Vancouver, BC. fully supports the Archimedes-Desal™ approach of using gravity as a primary driver to reduce energy demand and eliminate associated GHG emissions. This aligns directly with our mission to remove oil from hydraulic systems operating in sensitive water environments. We look forward to integrating our high-pressure water hydraulic cylinders into their desalination systems and expanding this collaboration across future applications.”

Why Crowdfunding:
Our innovation — a weight-driven reverse osmosis system — has also earned XPRIZE seed-funding. While this is greatly appreciated it is not nearly enough to accomplish our freshwater mission.
To bridge the funding gap, we have launched a GoFundMe campaign inviting individuals and organizations to contribute to this cause.
Your support will go directly toward:
• Final materials and fabrication for the proof-of-concept unit
• Instrumentation and sensors for XPRIZE testing and data collection
• Independent laboratory water testing costs
• Continuing development of Archimedes-Desal (TM) including solarization and other energy sources for 'no-grid' installations.

Help Us Turn Seawater into Life —
Water is life. If you believe clean water should be accessible to everyone — and that we must address Day Zero now — we invite you to join us and participate in this 'historic' XPRIZE Water Scarcity challenge.
We want our earliest supporters to feel part of the journey knowing they are helping advance a potentially ‘transformative’ innovation in the fight against global water insecurity.
Supporters will receive:
• Exclusive behind-the-scenes updates (as we can share them)
• Early invites to public demos or events when we go live
No sweepstakes, giveaways, or promotions are offered in exchange for any donations made to your GoFundMe
