Hi all, Elissa here (mom). Teagan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at around 14 months old. She’s 10 now (almost 11!) and has been living with this chronic autoimmune disease longer than not. She’s been thriving thus far but we need some help.
Teagan lost her insulin pump Saturday 7/26. She was at the beach with a friend and came home without her insulin pump. We have made calls to Newport PD, checked in with the lifeguard captain in Newport Beach, and been in touch with the City of Newport in hopes of getting lucky and someone turning in the insulin pump. Sadly, we have had no luck.
Teagan has had an insulin pump to manage her type 1 diabetes for over the last 10 years and this is what helps keep her alive and thriving. You would think medical insurance would help or her pump manufacturer themselves but they do not cover for loss or theft despite us being under warranty. Insurance only allows 1 pump every 4 years and Teagan had hers for a little over 18 months before this loss.
We’re reaching out to see if we can get some help. The money requested here would be to buy a new insulin pump for Teagan as she is now having to rely on multiple daily injections and is currently struggling with managing her once steady blood sugars. We appreciate any help and are trying to resolve this before she goes back to school after summer break. Thank you all!
