Taylor’s Journey
Taylor’s journey through remission came to an abrupt halt when her cancer returned—this time, more aggressive than before.
On August 2nd, a trip to the emergency room landed her back at Abbott after experiencing pain and discomfort, where doctors confirmed the difficult news. Taylor was immediately treated with an aggressive dose of chemotherapy, which worked to lower the cancer cells but also placed tremendous stress on her organs. The pain became unbearable, which resulted in her transfer to the ICU.
Taylor’s kidneys began failing, functioning at only 10% due to the strain of the chemo treatment and medications. Dialysis was started, but complications followed. She developed fluid in her lungs, went into respiratory distress, and was placed on a ventilator. Her liver counts rose, jaundice set in, and her body required a feeding tube, as well as blood transfusions, and platelet support.
After four days of sedation and intubation, Taylor made progress, and the breathing tube was removed. Since then, she continued to face setbacks, including a stroke, brain fog, and weakness—but continues to fight. She continues with dialysis in hopes that her kidneys will begin to recover. She has passed her swallow test, had her feeding tube removed, and is slowly regaining strength through physical therapy. The journey ahead is long. Once her kidneys and liver are stronger, doctors will continue chemotherapy and work to stabilize her blood & platelet counts.
Over the past few weeks, Taylor has endured countless scans and tests—on her brain, lungs, chest, spine, and more. Each day is uncertain, but she is showing resilience and determination.
As of August 20th, Taylor has started treatment for AML. Her regimen consists of eight hours of chemotherapy, four hours of rest, and three hours of dialysis each day over four days. We’re taking this step by step, staying hopeful and supporting her as we wait to see how her body responds to treatment.
How You Can Help
The fundraising goal has been increased from $7,000 to $25,000 to help cover the growing medical and living expenses during Taylor’s fight.
This sudden turn has been overwhelming for Taylor and her family. As she awaits her long-term disability benefits, she has no current income to cover bills, daily expenses, or provide for her young son, Theodore.
Any support—financial contributions, gift cards, or in-kind donations for Taylor and Theodore—would mean the world to Taylor. Even a small gift of $5 can help ease the weight of this unexpected battle.
Your kindness offers not just relief, but hope and strength for Taylor as she continues this fight.
