Support Taylor and her son Michael find a stable home!

Donation protected
Introduction:.

I'm Taylor, a 28-year-old single mom fighting to provide for my 6-year-old son, Michael. After facing unbearable challenges, we've lost our stable home again. We are homeless for the second time this year. Now, we must live in my car. We crash on friends' couches whenever we can. Sometimes, we can afford hotel rooms. One night, we slept at a homeless shelter due to extreme weather conditions. I must raise funds to rent a home near Michael's first-grade school. I want to avoid a mid-year school change that would disrupt his life. Your support means the world to us. Thank you for taking the time to read about our need.

Allotment of Funds:

I'm raising $2,500 to secure a roof over our heads in California, a state known for its high rent. Given our circumstances, sharing a room is the best solution. In our area, renting a single room costs $700 to $1,000 per month. Most listings require the first month's rent and a deposit equal to one month's rent upfront. For instance, an $800 monthly rent would require a $1,600 initial payment. Furthermore, many listings restrict occupancy to one person or prohibit children. As we're currently living out of my car, we lack essential furniture items. Our priority is to use the funds to cover the first month's rent and deposit. We will use any leftover funds to buy basic furnishings, like a bed, dresser, and desk, to make our new space livable. I'll continue to post updates about our progress.

Our Story Details:

I became pregnant while working at the VA as a medical support assistant. My pregnancy was challenging, and I missed a lot of work. After my son Michael was born, I had used up all my paid leave and started taking unpaid leave. I took a lot of unpaid leave. I was very sick my entire pregnancy. Then, Michael was in the NICU for weeks after he was born. This resulted in the VA director telling me to resign or he would fire me. I decided to quit to remain hirable within the VA. I lived with Michael's dad at the time and was a stay-at-home mom. We broke up when Michael was a year old due to him cheating on me several times. I continued to live with him and his family even though we were not together. Over the years, his dad's emotional abuse escalated into physical abuse. I started to do freelance jobs online and cleaned houses to support us. When Michael was in kindergarten, his dad kicked us out, and we became homeless. We moved in with an old man named Dave, but he died, and his house got sold, leaving us homeless again. After a while, I found a room to rent. But after moving in, I was informed the renter was not the owner. He explained he was several months behind on rent and PGE. He told me he could not catch up and was letting the place go. Then he gave me a 30-day notice. Michael and I are homeless again and living out of my car. I'm struggling to find a new place to live. I need a place that allows kids, is near Michael's school, and costs up to $800 a month. I also do not have any money until the first of the month, and even then I do not have enough for rent and deposit. I have a few options to look at tomorrow and the following day, but I need a miracle to make it work. I am hoping to move in this weekend so things can be more stable when Michael goes back to school Monday. I want to find a stable home, get us settled in, and start working full-time again.
