Support Tatiana Mays' Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
  • On May 6, 2024 Tatiana Mays was in a horrific auto accident that left her almost completely paralyzed from her chest down, from a C1 to C4 injury. After spending a month at FWB Hospital on a ventilator and feeding tube, then 2 additional months at Select Specialty Rehab, where she learned to breathe on her own again before
she was transferred to Brooks Rehabilitation-University in Jacksonville, FL September 16th. Her insurance only will cover 30 days inpatient Rehab and then she'll transfer to outpatient Rehab. She needs around the clock care for now. The team at Brooks Rehab has been phenomenal. The care team is also helping us organize delivery of all medical supplies that she'll need at home, i.e., electric wheelchair, Hospital bed, a lift to move her from the bed to her wheelchair, and other additional medical supplies.

Unfortunately her insurance will only cover up to a certain percentage of most supplies . Some supplies are not covered, like transportation home from Jacksonville to home as well as transportation to doctors appointments when home. We will also need another vehicle (or modify what we have) to transport her ourselves and allow for her to get out to other therapies that can't be done at home.

Her discharge date with Brooks is set for October 14, 2024. This is not the end of road for her. In fact, it's really just the beginning of her new normal. She will continue to need out patient Rehab for numerous months.

Her step mom, Brande has been by Tatiana's side her during her visit at Brooks for the last couple of weeks so she can learn what's needed to be her caregiver. She has decided to give up her job so she's able to continue to play a major role in her around the clock care when Tatiana comes home, where she'll live with her father and step mom.

We'd like to be able to get her the best Spinal Chord Injury therapy, but insurance only covers so much. We've already applied for additional help from the state, including social security disability before coming to Brooks. The application process takes time but her needs still continue in order to help keep her body get stronger, while continuing with various therapy sessions with Speech, physical, occupational, respiratory and recreational therapist.

Tatiana's care and needs will continue long after her discharge from Brooks. We are asking for any donation you can spare to help this precious young lady while she navigates this uncharted new chapter in her life.

We appreciate any amount you can contribute, and most importantly, Prayers.

We thank you all for your PRAYERS & donations.

Love,
Richard, Brande & Tatiana Mays
