I am raising money to help my friend Tatiana and her baby boy, Thiago, to find some safety and stability after they’ve been struggling since Thiago’s father was detained by ICE and deported at the end of last year.

Tatiana has been trying to make ends meet by working an unpredictable retail job while dealing with housing instability and finding childcare for Thiago. She wants to take steps toward a more stable future for herself and Thiago at a moment when many immigrants in this country have to deal with daily hardship and fear.

Tatiana’s plan is to attend a month-long course to become a Home Health Aide (HHA) to be able to find work with a more predictable schedule. She has access to a car but does not know how to drive. Learning how to drive would allow her to work and look for childcare in a different part of Brooklyn since there are no subsidized childcare spaces available in her neighborhood. However, because her current employer refuses to give her a regular schedule, she is unable to schedule her classes around her work hours.

I am raising money to cover the cost of the HAA training, the basic driving training that would lower her insurance premium as a new driver and a few additional classes, and her rent & expenses for the 1-month duration of her course. Thanks to local mutual aid efforts, we will be able to support Tatiana with childcare while she is in class and with additional driving practice.

This is an overview of the expenses I am hoping to cover with this fundraiser:

$700 HAA course

$380 Driving classes & road test

$2,500 Rent & living expenses for the month Tatiana will be in class and some time beyond that until her first paycheck.

Estoy recaudando fondos para ayudar a mi amiga Tatiana y a su bebé, Thiago, a encontrar algo de seguridad y estabilidad, ya que han estado pasando por muchas dificultades desde que el padre de Thiago fue detenido por ICE y deportado a finales del año pasado.

Tatiana ha estado tratando de seguir adelante con un trabajo impredecible en el sector de ventas, mientras sigue lidiando con la inestabilidad de la vivienda y buscando a quién cuide a Thiago. Quiere dar pasos hacia un futuro más estable para ella y Thiago en un momento en el que muchos inmigrantes en este país tienen que lidiar con dificultades y temores diarios.

El plan de Tatiana es asistir a un curso de un mes para convertirse en asistente de salud en el hogar (HHA, por sus siglas en inglés) y así poder encontrar un trabajo con un horario más predecible. Tiene acceso a un carro, pero no sabe conducir. Aprender a conducir le permitiría trabajar y buscar guarderías en diferentes partes de Brooklyn, ya que no hay plazas de guardería subvencionadas disponibles en su vecindario. Sin embargo, debido a que su empleador actual se niega a darle un horario regular, no puede coordinar sus clases con sus horas de trabajo.

Estoy recaudando fondos para cubrir el costo de la capacitación de HAA, las clases básicas de manejo que reducirían su prima de seguro como conductora novata y algunas clases adicionales, así como su renta y gastos durante el mes que dura el curso. Gracias a los esfuerzos locales de ayuda mutua, podremos apoyar a Tatiana con el cuidado de su hijo mientras está en clase y con prácticas adicionales de manejo.

Este es un resumen de los gastos que espero cubrir

700 $ por el curso de la HAA

380 $ por las clases de manejo y el examen práctico

2.500 $ para la renta y los gastos básicos durante el mes que Tatiana estará en clase y por algunas semanas después, hasta que reciba su primer sueldo.
