Tate’s Fight Against Cancer

Friends, family, and kind supporters,

Our sweet Tate Van Lopik is just 11 years old — smart, funny, gentle-hearted, and a true Star Wars aficionado. He is the best big brother to George (8) and Callie (6), and son to Matt. 

Just a few weeks ago, Tate’s life changed suddenly. After an episode of unexplained vomiting led to a trip to the ER, doctors discovered a malignant brain tumor (Medulloblastoma). On Monday, August 25, 2025, Tate underwent surgery at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis. His incredible medical team was able to completely remove the tumor but Tate now faces a long and challenging journey of recovery.

On September 16th, he will undergo another procedure to place a port, followed by six weeks of radiation (five days a week at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital), and then 12 months of chemotherapy in Indianapolis. Despite the challenges ahead, Tate’s determination and fighting spirit inspire us all.

As you can imagine, medical bills, housing and travel expenses for treatment add up quickly. Your generosity will go directly toward:

• Medical expenses not covered by insurance

• Travel and lodging during treatment in Cincinnati and Indianapolis

• Medications, therapies, and specialized care

• Supporting Tate’s family so they can be present with him every step of the way

• If any funds remain, they will be applied to a special post-treatment Disney World trip for Tate and his siblings — a joyful celebration of his bravery and healing
