My tummy hurts and I'm mad at the system.
Hi, I’m Taryn, and I need a colonoscopy and endoscopy. Not exactly what I dreamed of asking the internet for help with, but here we are. Due to a mix of family colon cancer history, chronic inflammation and current symptoms, my doctors strongly recommend both procedures. But since I’m under 45 (even though colon cancer is rising rapidly in my age group), my insurance won’t fully cover it. These tests are considered "diagnostic," which means I’m on the hook for the full cost until I meet my deductible. My ADHD tendencies would normally mean I put this on the back burner until I can't ignore it any longer, but I refuse to risk leaving my daughter without her mother.

The bill? Around $3,000 up front.
All to hopefully rule out something serious, or catch it early if it is.
  • Procedure fees: ~$2,000 (slightly less if I don't use my insurance which makes no sense)
  • Doctor fees: ~$600
  • Anesthesia + pathology: The rest (yay, bundling!)

Why I’m Asking for Help
I’ve spent hours on the phone with insurance, asked my doctor’s office to advocate for me, and explored lower-cost options. But unless I delay my care or take on major medical debt, this is my best option. It shouldn’t be this hard to get lifesaving care, but it is. So I’m asking for support, and trying to raise awareness at the same time.

How You Can Help
  • Donate directly here on GoFundMe (every dollar helps, seriously).
  • Buy a shirt! I’ve channeled my big emotions into creating, and have a few t-shirts available for purchase to help me raise the funds. Proceeds go straight toward the procedure, and the designs aim to normalize conversations about gut health, screenings, and the immensely messed-up state of our healthcare system. bonfire.com/store/taryns-merch-for-medical-care/

Colon Cancer is on the Rise under 45
I’m not the only one navigating this. Rates of colorectal cancer are rising sharply in younger adults, and many are dismissed, misdiagnosed, or priced out of early screenings. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this fundraiser or buying a shirt is huge. And if you’re feeling off: trust your gut. Literally.
