My name is Tara, and I was recently diagnosed with Alpha 1, a rare genetic disorder that has deeply affected my life. For years, I struggled with unexplained health issues, and finally receiving a diagnosis in April brought both relief and new challenges. With less than 36% of my lung function remaining, I now undergo weekly Prolastin-C infusions through a port, requiring me to travel out of town every week. This treatment is lifelong, as there is currently no cure for Alpha 1. The goal is to stabilize my lung function and prevent further decline, but if things worsen, I will need to consult with specialists about lung transplants.
Living with this condition has made it extremely difficult to work full-time and provide for myself, my 11-year-old child, and my 6 year old grandson. The costs of medical care, travel, and daily living expenses have become overwhelming. I am working toward regaining my independence by securing reliable transportation for my treatments and restoring my home, which includes paying for a water meter ($3,000 Rural Water District) getting help with property clean-up, replacing water lines, electric pole, and hiring a electrician for power to my electric pole. I have filed for Disability, but the process can take months or even years, and in the meantime, I am doing everything I can to keep our lives stable.
Asking for help is not easy for me, but your support would mean the world. It would allow me to focus on my health, care for my child, and work toward a better future for us and my grandson. Every contribution helps ease the burden of medical bills, transportation, and daily needs, giving me hope and the strength to keep fighting for my family.
