My name is Derek Malone & I am creating this fundraiser for my co-worker Taran Belcher. I have worked along side Taran for a little over 2 years. Taran is one of my lead technicians (basically an assistant manager) who is an extremely hard worker who consistently goes above & beyond without ever being asked to do so. Taran's commitment to quality & hard work is a benchmark that others look up to & follow. He is a great friend to the people who know him in this capacity. Taran is 32 years old & a single father to his 6 year old son. Other than his son, Taran has no family support in his life. Taran was recently diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of MS. At this time, the MS has presented itself in Taran's brain & spinal cord. The MS is already affecting his motor skills. For anybody to receive this diagnosis is a terrible thing. Taran is a great person that I have a lot of respect for. For somebody that is as young as Taran is, being a single father and not having any family support - the diagnosis is tragic to say the least. There is medication available that has a high success rate of stopping symptoms & slowing the progression of the disease. The medication is extremely expensive with an out of pocket cost, after insurance, that is upwards of $25,000. Taran has saved some money in preparation for the cost, but he needs some help to get the rest of the way there. We are asking for donations to get to our goal of $5,000.
