My husband and I experienced an aggressive dog attack last Saturday, June 22 while walking our Pomeranians. Three of our poms were seen at VCA East in Santa, Rosa, CA. One had minor swelling and has improved. The other two suffered deep bite wounds and mass soft tissue damage. My husband was also bitten and treated. I escaped with just bruises and strained muscles. All authorities have filed reports. The aggressive dog has been impounded by Animal Control. This situation is considered a civil matter, and we will pursue that, however emergency vet bills add up quickly, especially with multiple pups attacked at once.
Our Tanuki (pictured above) has had his wounds turn necrotic. He is currently hospitalized for a blood transfusion, stabilization and surgery to remove dead/dying tissue at TruVet in Petaluma. Tanuki has already had four debridement procedures with another scheduled 7-11. His surgical costs and hospitalization at TruVet has already exceeded $15,000 and he still has further to go before his wounds can be closed. That does NOT include his costs for visits and treatment at VCA on 6/8 days since the attack.
Tanuki came to us as an owner surrender last January. The plan was to help him learn to be a family dog (he previously was an outdoor only dog), learn leash and grooming manners and eventually find him the best possible home. That being said, we did not have insurance for Tanuki, like we do for the other pups that were injured.
Emergency vet care is expensive for even one injured pup. Experiencing an attack of this nature and having three needing emergency vet care is beyond anything we had ever thought possible as pet owners. So, after much urging from family and friends we are asking for help to save Tanuki! Any and all donations will go directly to paying for the emergency vet care.
Proof of vet bills and injuries can be provided if wished, just ask! The pictures are graphic and not something most folks can handle seeing.
Thank you for your consideration. It is much appreciated! All donations will go directly to paying the vet bills we have put on our credit cards.
