To our Tantay community
Last week, Tantay’s owner and founder, José Aste, had a medical emergency that resulted in an extensive brain surgery. Thanks to the swift intervention of his neighbors and his wife, and the expert medical care he received, we’re fortunate to share that he is on the road to recovery…and like most good things, recovery is going to take time.
In light of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to close Tantay for the months of July and August while José and his family focus on his health. Getting him back to the things he loves — family, community, and especially sharing his Peruvian culture with all of you — is the goal. ❤️ We’ll share updates on our social media pages in the weeks ahead, and you’ll all be the first to know when we decide what’s next.
We, this ad-hoc emergency response crew, want to sincerely thank the Tantay team and José’s dearest friends who immediately jumped in to keep the restaurant running since this happened and the AMAZING Tantay community whose love and support is appreciated beyond words.
We’ve set up this GoFundMe to support the Aste family during this challenging time and the difficult months ahead. The hope is to lessen the burden of this closure on the family so they can focus their energy on José’s recovery and the family’s needs. Please continue sending your prayers, thoughts, and positive energy to José - he’s feeling your love so let’s keep it going!
Thank you all, and we’ll see you soon. ¡Hasta luego! ️️
