My name is Ashley and my 9-year-old nephew, Tanner, has just been diagnosed with MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome).
Tanner is an energetic, funny, and kind boy. He loves Kentucky sports, the Bengals, playing basketball, football, spending time with his family, and snuggling with his best 4-legged brother, Boots. He is full of life and always on the go! So when Tanner started to have a hard time catching his breath after playing basketball and complaining of chest discomfort, his parents got concerned and took him to the doctor to be evaluated. They were advised to go to Norton Children’s Hospital where, over the past 2 weeks, he has received 2 blood transfusions, a bone marrow biopsy, and countless other lab tests.
This has been the most gut-wrenching and heartbreaking news for Tara and Joe, as well as the rest of our families. It’s the most nauseating feeling to find out your child has cancer. They are heartbroken and feeling helpless. Tanner is supposed to be thinking about playing ball and getting excited for his 10th birthday next month. But instead, this sweet boy is getting ready for the fight of his life. He will start chemotherapy next week and be hospitalized for about 5 weeks.
During this difficult time, my sister, Tara, will be off work and staying with Tanner at the hospital. They would never ask for money, but we wanted to help them out any way we can. Joe and Tara need to be concentrating on getting Tanner better and taking care of Taryn. They shouldn’t have to worry about getting bills paid and medical costs.
If you are able to help, we would all greatly appreciate it. All funds raised go directly to the Gross family for medical costs, living expenses and for ensuring Tanner’s sister, Taryn, is well taken care of while Mom, Dad and brother out of state for treatment.
We are also asking for prayers, please! Thank you!
