Help Restore Tampa Bay’s Ecosystem: Support the Waterway Warriors
Tampa Bay is a national treasure, renowned as one of the top fishing destinations in the world. However, in recent years, our ecosystem has faced growing threats. Devastating incidents like Piney Point, annual red tide outbreaks, and the strain of a rapidly increasing population have left our waters in peril. Florida’s population continues to grow at one of the fastest rates in the country, and the Tampa Bay area is at the forefront of this boom. This growth, while exciting, puts immense pressure on our delicate marine environment.
Despite millions of dollars allocated to government programs, we’ve yet to see meaningful results—over $10 million spent.
That’s where the Waterway Warriors step in.
We are a privately funded initiative committed to restoring and enhancing the Tampa Bay ecosystem. With a focus on redfish, trout, snook, mangroves, and seagrass, we’re determined to bring real change to our waters. Unlike government programs, we’re acting now—led by a team of passionate and experienced experts:
Captain Chris Canning: A devoted captain of Tampa Bay with a deep understanding of its waters.
Chris Canning Sr.: Has experience building an aquaculture facility in Central Florida, where he successfully raised redfish, trout, and snook.
Clay Canning: A lifelong marine enthusiast with 15 years of expertise in reef aquariums and keeping marine life thriving in captivity.
Why We Need Your Support
We have the land, knowledge, and foundational tank systems to build a thriving aquaculture facility dedicated to stock enhancement. What we need now is your support to build the structure that will house our efforts.
With $50,000, we can fund:
- The base building, including permits.
- Professional engineering and design services.
- Construction of the facility.
We’re doing much of the land clearing and development ourselves, but this critical funding will allow us to take the next step in creating a facility that can make a tangible difference in Tampa Bay.
Why This Matters
Florida’s rapid population growth, particularly in the Tampa Bay area, is stretching our ecosystem to its limits. This isn’t just about the environment; it’s about preserving a way of life. Without urgent action, the waters we treasure and depend on could be permanently damaged. The Waterway Warriors are committed to ensuring that Tampa Bay remains a vibrant, thriving marine habitat for current and future generations.
Economic Impact
The health of Tampa Bay’s ecosystem directly influences our local economy. Bay-dependent industries contribute approximately $32.1 billion annually and support over 207,000 employees who earn $10.4 billion in personal income. Recreational fishing alone supports about 88,500 jobs in Florida, with an economic impact of $9.2 billion. By supporting the restoration and enhancement of our marine environment, you’re also investing in the economic well-being of our community.
Who Should Support Us?
If you love Tampa Bay, if you’ve ever fished its waters, or if you’ve made this area your home, we need your help. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or new to the area, you can play a vital role in protecting and restoring this fragile ecosystem for generations to come.
