Support Tammy & Christian After Fire At New Home
Dear friends,
First and foremost to note is that Christian & Tammy are both safe and physically well! They are tending to some small burns and the after effects of too much smoke, but they are okay.
In the very early morning of January 25th, a spark caught in their newly built sauna and proceeded to grow. Christian tried his very best to douse the fire but it continued to spread quickly. Soon, the flames engulfed the whole building and began spreading towards Tammy & Christians new home. The outer wall began to char and the house was completely filled with smoke. The amazing local fire department arrived within six minutes of being called and, thankfully, were able to stop the fire from further damaging their house. Beyond the structural damage, several items of great personal and sentimental value were lost.
The need:
As you can imagine, coping with a house fire at the same time as a pandemic greatly adds to the gravity of an already challenging situation. We are all feeling the weight of the pandemic, many of us monetarily so. Through it all, the support, care, love, and comradery of Community persists.
Today I read a quote that said “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.” In this sense, whether you are able to offer a little or a lot, it is in the coming together as a Community that we will reach our goal.
All funds will be sent directly to Christian & Tammy and will be used for:
- Covering living expenses during time away from work
- Cleanup, which includes: cleaning the entirety of the inside of the house to remove smoke and water damage; removal of burned sauna building; removal of the burned portion of the house; covering disposal expenses.
- Covering the expense of several large power tools that were lost in the fire that are not only vital to the work they do, but also to rebuilding the house. These include: a planer, tile saw, laser level, circular saw, shop vac, and power tool batteries.
- And of course, a majority of the funds will go towards the materials for rebuilding!
About Tammy & Christian:
To use the words “generous” and “big hearted” in reference to these two can only begin to hint at their character. The loving and compassionate way in which they walk through their lives is felt by all who know them, and in a gentle way, reminds us of our own capacities to nourish such ways in our own lives. They choose to encourage and uplift even during times when it would simply be easier to act otherwise. They are always lending a helping hand to those who need it.
Whether it be work, building their house, or contributing to the community, Tammy and Christian always work diligently at whatever it is they set their mind to. Between the two of them, they are accomplished carpenters, boat builders, woodworkers, painters, sewers, and artists, and carry a boundless amount of other invaluable skill sets.
About their home:
Before the fire, Christian & Tammy were half way through building their dream home! A dream that will continue to bloom moving forward. There is much work to be done, but in time their home will come to fruition. An important piece of that vision is the sauna, which not only supports health and wellbeing, but deeply nourishes and connects the community they hold dear. Nestled in the woods of Franklin, it is, and will continue to be, a beautiful place for them to live.
