My spouse and I adopted Tamlinn this past spring. He was just diagnosed with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, an autoimmune disorder where his blood is attacking his red blood cells.

In June of 2024, our very beloved cat Toby passed away from cancer. After a mourning period, we decided the following spring that it was time to welcome a new cat into our lives.

We chose this beautiful, sassy, 5-year-old orange boy with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and named him Tamlinn after the Scottish fairy story and fiddle tune. He quickly became an integral part of our family, getting along with our dog Laika and bringing us so much delight.

Only five months into our time together, we took him to the vet because he was acting a little off: subdued, vomited a few times, low appetite, and especially weird to me-- he wasn't biting me. Tamlinn is the king of the playful love bite.

What seemed like a normal vet visit turned serious when the vet noticed his ears and skin were yellow from jaundice. They took him for blood tests and found out he has Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. (IMHA)

For some reason Tamlinn's body is attacking his red blood cells. This condition is unrelated to his FIV status.

The vet did many tests and prescribed him steroids and antibiotics. Thankfully, he's clinically much improved on the medication, but he'll need to stay on immune-suppressing steroids and get his blood tested every week until/if his blood stabilizes.

I am currently asking for $1,500 to cover the cost of his first two vet visits and the first five blood tests.

We'll need to reassess from there.

As the article says, this is a very serious disease. "Treatment must be aggressive and not prematurely discontinued." We do not have the financial ability to do so without your help.
