On February 5th, I experienced a seizure for the first time while in bed with my fiancé. I had never had a seizure before, and it was a frightening experience that led to an ambulance ride to the emergency room. While in the ER, a CT scan revealed a 4cm mass on my brain. The next day, an MRI confirmed that I needed immediate brain surgery to remove the mass, which turned out to be a tumor. On February 7th, I underwent emergency brain surgery and have been recovering in the hospital ever since. My fiancé has been by my side, missing work to help me recover, and together we are facing a wave of unexpected expenses related to my medical emergency and ongoing recovery.
We are now dealing with the costs of meal planning and prepping, grocery shopping, food delivery, paying bills, travel expenses for doctor’s visits, and the potential costs of further treatments depending on my pathology results. We also need to make our apartment more comfortable, functional, and accessible to accommodate my new limitations as I heal. The financial burden has been overwhelming, and we are doing our best to stay hopeful and focused on my recovery.
I am a student and a hopeful social worker in the making. I have always valued community and compassion for others during trying times, and now, in the midst of my own, I am reaching out for help. Any support offered is an absolute blessing, and our gratitude as a couple is abundant. Thank you for considering helping us through this challenging chapter.
