Support a Mexican women-run restaurant in Fairfax

Help fund a Mexican restaurant in Fairfax with Karina and Ana, two amazing Marin locals with years of chef experience. They were just faced with an unexpected $15k increase in the down payment, so let's help them make this happen!

 

Karina Carrillo and Ana Medina have a beautiful vision. They want to share with the Bay Area the foods and flavors that they grew up cooking in Jalisco, Mexico, building community around sharing delicious food in a comfortable space where all are welcome. With a combined 25+ years of culinary and business management experience, in addition to being extremely dedicated, passionate, and talented women, Karina and Ana are poised and ready to run a thriving restaurant. Their dream is at the threshold of reality: they’ve signed a contract for an existing business in the heart of Fairfax, and have worked hard to save over 95% of the investment needed to launch this restaurant, with mere steps to go until opening the doors.

 

Let’s show that we want more Marin businesses owned and run by local members of the community from a diverse background who care about making this beautiful place even more fantastic! The last US Census reports that less than 40% of Marin businesses are women-owned, and only 15% are minority-owned. We want to see both of those numbers increase!

 

Karina and Ana have been working towards making their dream a reality for years, and were all ready to go… until an unexpected additional expense came up – $15k more needed on the down payment. Community donations will not only help with the surprise increased down payment, but will also help ensure a successful launch, including ideas such as a grab ‘n go case with to-go items and expanded hours including weekend brunch and happy hour.

 

Karina and Ana’s skillsets are uniquely complimentary: Karina Carrillo is a talented and creative chef with over 15 years of experience working in local restaurants and pop-up events. Her innovative style pairs the flavors from home and culinary techniques she grew up with, alongside skills learned in culinary school and from years of cooking for a diverse palette and range of dietary needs. Her food is fantastic - inspired and delicious! Ana Medina is a highly capable and astute businesswoman with over 15 years of business administration experience managing operations, balancing budgets, and ensuring the success of the businesses she has worked for.

 

As their friend and colleague, I have shared food with Karina and Ana at countless holidays, gatherings, and events, and I can’t say enough about the quality of care and cuisine that these creative, skilled, and thoughtful women bring to their community. I strongly believe in their vision, and I believe in their success. As a Fairfax resident of 13 years, I’ve seen restaurants come and go, and I believe their unique perspective and blend of spirited entrepreneurship and kindness will be such a gift to this community.
