Surviving the Unthinkable: A Journalist's Three Death Encounters, Lost Equipment, Bombed Home Give Him a Fresh Start
My name is Lisa, and I'm reaching out with a heartfelt plea for my dear friend, Taer, a journalist who has paid an unimaginable price for telling the truth. He is not just a reporter, he is a witness to suffering, a voice for the silenced, and a lifeline for the people of Gaza.
For years, he has risked his life to document realities the world urgently needs to see. But the cost has been staggering. He has survived three near-death attacks, lost all his press equipment twice, and most recently, his home was bombed and reduced to rubble.
Today, Taer, his wife, and his two young children are displaced, starting from zero, and he needs our help.
Why the Equipment Matters
For a journalist in Gaza, equipment is not just a set of tools. It is the bridge between truth and the outside world. Every camera lens, microphone, battery, and protective vest gives Taer the ability to document what is happening and ensure the world does not look away.
But Taer has lost all his press equipment twice, each time in attacks he barely survived. These losses have left him unable to work, even though he remains dedicated to telling the stories that must be heard.
This campaign will help him:
Replace his primary camera to record footage and capture critical moments
Rebuild his audio kit, including microphones and recorders for interviews
Secure protective gear such as a press vest and helmet for safety
Purchase essential items like batteries, memory cards, chargers, and backups
Obtain a durable laptop for editing, storing, and sending his work
Recover necessary mobility tools such as bags, stabilizers, and mounts
These items are not luxuries. They are the only means he has to continue showing the world the reality of Gaza. Your support restores his ability to work, to contribute, to support his family, and to ensure that truth continues to reach the outside world.
Three Encounters With Death
Taer’s work has placed him in situations no one should ever face:
1. The Indonesian Hospital Attack
While filming inside the hospital, jets and artillery struck without warning. Two of his friends were critically injured. In the chaos, Taer was forced to flee for his life, abandoning all his press equipment to survive.
2. The Khan Yunis Invasion
While covering the invasion, a tank shell hit the building where he was working. The blast destroyed everything, including his gear, but somehow, Taer walked out alive.
3. The Recent Helicopter Strike
Just two weeks ago, a helicopter missile struck the tent next to his. The explosion destroyed all his press tools once again, leaving him with nothing but the clothes he was wearing. Yet, miraculously, he survived.
The Loss of Home and Stability
On top of the repeated attacks, the most devastating blow came when Taer’s home was bombed.
The place where his wife and two children Jad (4) and Sabaf once felt safe was reduced to rubble. Every memory, every belonging, and every piece of stability vanished in moments.
Today, the family is displaced in the Al-Mawasi area, trying to rebuild their lives with almost nothing.
Despite all of this, Taer remains committed to documenting Gaza’s story. But he cannot continue without support.
How You Can Help
Your generosity will provide Taer with:
Essential press equipment needed to resume his vital reporting
Shelter and basic stability for his family as they recover from displacement
Resources for his children, who have lost their home and sense of safety
A chance to rebuild, both professionally and personally
A Plea for Hope
Taer has risked everything, his safety, his livelihood, and nearly his life, to share the truth with the world. Now, he faces his hardest struggle yet.
Your support, no matter the size, will help rebuild his life, restore his ability to work, and ensure that Gaza’s stories continue to be documented with courage and integrity.
Please stand with Taer and his family.
Together, we can help him rise again and continue the work that the world so desperately needs.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your compassion and support.
