Support Tactile's Move & Upgrade

Hi all, it's Anna and Sarah. Ten years ago, a group of friends, family, and supporters kick-started our little side hustle and helped us make it into our full-time jobs. Tactile Craftworks is about to make another transition and we are asking for your help once more.

In July, we will be moving our studio into a newly renovated building which will allow us to do several new things. We will be able to upgrade the ventilation systems for our lasers and install a spray booth for sealing our leather goods. We will also now have more control over our space, allowing us to host future shopping events and workshops for our customers.

For years, Anna (our Co-Founder) had imagined a historic Milwaukee building that could house her, her husband Mike, their dogs, a huge garden, and a permanent home for Tactile. This seemed impossible for a long time, but in 2022 they found the right 1905 building and pulled the trigger. The first floor that was to be the future studio needed a major overhaul, and is the case with most renovations, the work took years longer than anticipated. Anna and Mike have been tireless in their goal to honor the history of the architecture, business, and community that had come before them in this space, while also making it functional and beautiful for our small staff. After many difficult setbacks, we are thrilled to make this Tactile's home at last.

The building itself has a rich history. In 1905, the Nimmer family built the brick building to serve as a butcher shop, and in the 1970s, Frank Jakubczak opened the European Sausage Shop, turning the shop into a South Side landmark for decades.

We are also offering a few items for sale as part of our fundraiser, which you can find at our website here if you prefer to contribute by making a purchase.

The funds that we raise from this GoFundMe will be used for the costs of moving Tactile and installing the newer and more efficient safety equipment.

How are we planning to use these funds?
We expect the ventilation upgrades to cost around $3,500; this includes new venting for all of our laser cutters and the purchase and installation of a spray booth.
The remaining $1,500 will be used for moving expenses.

Many of you seeing this have supported us from the beginning, and for that we are eternally grateful. We built Tactile with community in mind, and we can't wait to welcome you into this space for a warming celebration of a long-time dream come to fruition. Thank you deeply for being here.
xoxo,
Anna & Sarah
