Help Sylvester!

Donation protected
Sylvester is one of the kindest and gentlest people I have ever known.  Sylvester comes through our neighborhood a couple days a week, and he is a bright light of friendliness. He always remembers everyone's (and their pet's) names, and always asks you how you are. A truly a lovely human being.

Sylvester comes through our neighborhood to collect bottles for recycling. Many of us keep our bottles aside for him for his regular pick ups. Its a time consuming job, he starts before dawn and is out for long hours to collect enough bottles in order to pull in enough cash to make ends meet.

Earlier this month, Sylvester suffered from a massive heart failure. There were some complications, and he spent the greater part of the last three weeks in the hospital. He is so grateful to now be on the road to recovery. When you are already living at poverty level, 3 weeks of getting behind can be enough to potentially face eviction and homelessness. His two children are currently in college, and family is currently struggling to support his recovery while paying the bills.

We are seeking community support to help Sylvester make it through this difficult time. We want to show up for a fellow  human, who is facing a terrifyingly stressful time, to get his rent and his basic needs covered while he recovers. This is what community is all about!

Anything you might have to spare would be greatly appreciated!

This part is specifically for those of you who are interested in knowing more about Sylvester's story:
He worked for landscaping company for many years. He has always been a tax paying but undocumented worker, who has been in the process of his legal immigration for over 12 years now. The landscaping company he worked for closed down in recent years, and because his legal work options were limited, he ended up recycling to get by until his paperwork finalized. Initially he was supposed to have his legal work permit in 2016, but in our new administration, there were rule changes and dramatic delays.

He is hard working an determined, and has always been happy to do anything he can to just make sure his children have a safe and bright future. Sylvester and his wife also had a child who was born with disabilities, and they worked very hard to always give him the best care possible. Unfortunately their son died 2 years ago, due to complications with his condition, which of course, has made the recent years incredibly difficult.

We are so happy to lend a hand to to Sylvester and his family, and we hope you will join us in doing so! This is what life is all about: community, and love.

Thank you, we love you!
