Support Sylivia's 1Million Tree Planting Campaign

Hi everyone, my name is Sylivia Opieba from Nairobi Kenya. A 22 year old young climate change Activist and environmentalist. I have always had unwavering commitment and passion for impact making moreso when it comes to improving the wellbeing of individuals and making the world a sustainable place for everyone. I have been having a yearning passion in the Climate change and environmental sector.

After witnessing the first hand challenges of climate change, from water scarcity to environmental degradation, I was inspired to make a change in reducing the negative impacts of climate change. My project Green Got Talent is aimed at giving a space for the young people who are passionate about environmental justice and using their talents and creativity in the Advocasy efforts, restoration and empowermen.

I remember when I joined campus and I was involved in an environmental activity nearby our school and collected 2 tonnes of waste. That is when I noticed my passion lied in promoting environmental sustainability. I had a personal connection with the environment and I witnessed the micro impacts of climate change in the community. With my active engagement in our Environmental Association, I was ushered in as the publicity and marketing lead for the Egerton University Environmental Association.

With my restoration efforts I have managed to plant approximately over 3,000 trees and that's why I am starting a “1Million Tree Planting Campaign" in Busia county where I am planning to restore School lands in Busia and empowering the school going children on the importance of restoration and how their small efforts can help in making This world a better place. I am fundraising funds for the project that is intended to kick off in Busia county in Kenya.

Trees clean and cool the air, beautify our streets, and boost to our physical and mental health daily. Trees also remove carbon dioxide from the air, which helps mitigate the effects of global warming.

I am also confident with my ability to create viable, sustainable solutions and work effectively with diverse teams.

My background, combined with my drive to foster environmental stewardship through innovative education will help me in making this world a sustainable.
