Support Sydney's Recovery from Brain Surgery

Donation protected
2025 update: Sydney is incredibly grateful for your donations and appreciates any continued assistance as she embraces a new chapter in her recovery.

Sydney was formally diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury in January, as a result of her brain cancer surgery in August 2024. This new diagnosis provides direction to which types of medical treatment will be most beneficial to facilitate her recovery.

Sydney has made the difficult decision to move to North Carolina to be with family as she needs more caretaking than initially expected. She has built a life in Denver over the last few years, but due to the circumstances it is no longer in her best interest to stay there at this time.

Sydney is actively working with an organization that helps medical providers return to work responsibly after major health events. This is a very helpful resource for Sydney and she will continue working with them while she's recovering back in NC.

She is currently waiting for her disability application to be reviewed, which is expected to take another 3 to 6 months.

Now that Sydney is moving back with family, she must establish relationships with new health care providers, namely those who specialize in neuropsychology, to direct her recovery.

Your continued support would help Sydney cover the cost of moving, bills, living expenses, and continued health care. Your contributions would allow her to focus fully on recovery and eliminate a little stress from an already stressful situation. Thank you for your love, support, and generosity during this difficult time!

I'm starting this GoFundMe for my dear friend Sydney, who urgently needs financial assistance as she navigates a challenging recovery from brain surgery.

In May of 2024, she went to the ED, after passing out, where they discovered a brain tumor. She was diagnosed with an Astrocytoma, which is a rarer form of brain cancer. In August, she underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Initially, her care team estimated a recovery period of 4-10 weeks with minimal side effects.

However, the aftermath has been far more challenging. Sydney has endured issues with her vision, movement, and day-to-day functions. She was then put on medicine that caused a negative reaction and put her life in danger. It wasn't until she sought a second opinion that she learned her recovery would realistically take a full year.

In November, after 12 weeks of short-term disability, she was let go from her job, due to inability to return to work. A job she cherished and dedicated over a decade to. Sydney studied at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Biology, with honors. Afterwards, she attended South University where she obtained her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. She is a certified internal and family medicine physician assistant who found joy in providing compassionate care to adult and pediatric patients in Denver, Colorado. Unfortunately, it will be awhile before she is able to practice that kind of medicine again due to the trauma she endured and the long recovery period.

Left to navigate this trying and traumatic time without insurance or a steady income, she is now unable to afford the medical appointments critical to her recovery. As well as,

Sydney is waiting for unemployment benefits and government assistance, but delays in paperwork and gaps in her former employer's handling have left her in a dire position. Without financial help, she's unable to attend her much-needed doctor's appointments, prolonging her recovery.

I first met Sydney in 2014 when we worked together at Bounce U. Even then, she amazed me with her wisdom, kindness, and deep sense of empathy. Over the years, she's been a constant source of encouragement and strength in my life—always knowing the right words to say and offering her support unconditionally. Now, I have the chance to give back to her in her time of need.

I know many people are stretched thin, but if you feel called to help, Sydney would deeply appreciate any contribution. Your donation will help her access critical medical care, cover basic living expenses, and regain her footing as she works toward recovery.

If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser or keeping Sydney in your thoughts and prayers. Every bit of support counts and means the world to her.

Thank you for taking the time to read Sydney's story and for offering your generosity, love, and prayers. Together, we can make a difference for someone who has spent her life caring for others.
