Dear Sweetlanders
As you may know, three members of our farm crew, Dale, Kemor, and Keith, travel here under the H2A guest worker program from Jamaica each year, and we truly couldn't operate the farm without them. They are kind, funny, smart, capable, hard working, and part of our farm family.
On October 28, on the eve of returning to Jamaica after a long season away from their families, Dale, Kemor, and Keith watched as Hurricane Melissa devastated their country. We waited anxiously to hear from their families, as communications were very limited due to widespread power and network outages. It was clear that all three would be returning to many months or years of rebuilding.
At times of devastation like this, we like to think our community is at its best. If disaster hit our farm we know that our CSA members would rally around us, and we are ready to rally around our crew and their families. If you are able, we ask that you please consider making a donation toward helping our Jamaican team members rebuild.
Dale, Kemor, and Keith headed home a week late, once airports had reopened. What is usually a joyful return to family was now filled with unimaginable worry, hardship, work, and expense after the devastation to their homes, communities, and country. It will be a long road to recovery. We couldn't run this farm without their help each year, and they have become more than crew; they are our friends.
Thank you for any amount you can contribute. We are all in this together.
Norah and The Sweetland Team
PS
WE HAVE HEARD FROM OTHER FOLKS WHO HAVE DONATED THAT THE SITE AUTOMATICALLY CHARGED THEM A HEAFTY "TIP" ON TOP OF THEIR DONATION. When you enter your donation amount you can slide the tip percentage up or down as you see fit. It is not immediately obvious, so please be aware before you submit.
