We found Sweetie, a badly hurt, large and beautiful Belgium Malinois dog on a ranch in Southern California the other day. He was badly injured and unable to use one of his back legs, but he had the kindest brown eyes and the guy who was helping him and I could tell he just wanted help.
I ended up taking him to an emergency vet miles away and unfortunately they had to amputate his back leg.
The exrays told a very sad story. Two of his legs had been broken and mended on their own, and he had been shot and the bullet was still lodged inside him. The leg was amputated because he had held it up to keep it from hurting for so long it had atrophied in place and couldn't be fixed. He'd also been had caught in barbed wire and had sores oozing from that. I couldn't keep from crying for him, and he was so brave.
He came through surgery great and my two little dogs and I picked him up a day later. Right now he's in the front seat of my truck, his sweet brown eyes looking up at me as I type into my phone.
My little dogs and I are full-time travelers living in a small 13ft camper that I pull with a pickup truck. Last night, Sweetie slept on the floor while the other two and I slept on the double bed. He completely filled the floor space. I made a bed for him to sleep under my bed, bud the cone on his head keeps him from utilizing it.
I've completely fallen for this young guy, but with the vet bill having reached over $4,000 and a bag of food costing around $100, I don't have the funds it takes. So I'm searching for a good home for him and looking to you and other wonderful people like yourself to recoup what it's cost me so far to help Sweetie survive his ordeal.
If you can help, that would be awesome, and/or if you know someone else who can help, sharing this GoFundMe would be cool as well.
