Support Svengoolie's Fight for Life

if you’ve ever met Svengoolie you know that he is the chubbiest, funniest, sweetest boy ever….

unfortunately last week, he stopped eating and showed significant behavior changes. We were advised to take him to the emergency vet, and when we arrived we were charged $2,000 upfront and after blood work, urinalysis and X-rays, the vet told us that our sweet boy was perfectly fine and that any possible obstructions or issues he was having were not of concern and that he would be fine in a few days.

After a week had passed and he had shown no improvement, even after syringe feeding him gravy and water, we returned back to a different vet. Upon arriving to the second vet, they redid his X-rays and told us he needed immediate life saving surgery due to an obstruction in his intestines. We left our sweet boy in the most capable hands and waited.

Not long after, the vet called us with the worst news possible. Our baby had swallowed a piece of a plastic straw with a long piece of string attached, and it was sawing through his insides. The holes were a centimeter in length and abdominal fluid was leaking into his abdominal cavity. We had to decide in that exact moment whether to stop the surgery and put our sweet boy down, or have the majority of his small intestine removed and hope for the best. We told the vet to do whatever they could to save our sweet boy.

He’s currently going into hour 24 of constant, round the clock supervision for at least 48 hours but is showing signs of Ileus, and if his sutures rupture we will have to choose between a $10,000 surgery or putting the best member of our family down.
