Our sweet baby Suzy has unfortunately been diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) last night, and we are absolutely devastated. Her life just started as she only turned 7 months on New Year's Day. We are doing everything we can to keep her here with us, her mom, and her siblings.
To share a little backstory on how baby Suzy came into our lives: we were hanging out in our backyard when we heard the cutest little meow. We looked everywhere until we saw mama cat walking along the fence. She jumped down, walked towards us, and immediately started showing us love and affection. In that moment, we knew she chose us. We named her Sue since she found us on the street we live on, Sueno.
While I was finishing my college degree and my fiancé was working full-time, Sue would always be waiting for us in the front yard, laying on the bench as if she knew exactly when we'd be home. As time passed, we noticed her belly being a little more plump than usual, so we were worried that it was either something severe like worms or she was possibly pregnant. We took her to the vet the very next day and heard the most wonderful news... she was pregnant with 5 adorable babies!
One day later, Sue successfully gave birth to all 5 beautiful kittens. We were blessed with 2 pretty girls and 3 handsome boys:
• Suzy (our little warrior & mama's twin)
• Cookie (harlequin)
• Sugar (grey tabby & white, with a kinked tail like mama)
• Winston (grey tabby & white)
• Sylvester (tuxedo)
All five babies were born healthy and full of energy, but we did notice that one of poor baby Suzy's eyes had not opened by week 2. We immediately took her to the vet and, thankfully, were able to successfully treat her for an eye infection. Everything was perfect from there.
Despite my fiancé being the sole provider financially for all these babies plus mama, we made sure to get them all vaccinated and fixed. We love these sweet babies with all our hearts and would give up the world to make them live a long, happy life. Our family just started growing last year, and we don't want to lose any of them so quickly or unexpectedly.
Going into the emergency vet last night was a whirlwind of emotions. From hearing the diagnosis of FIP to seeing the cost of treatment, we were completely overwhelmed. But there was one thing we knew for certain: we were not ready to say goodbye to our sweet baby Suzy.
We decided to move forward with diagnosis and treatments but were unfortunately met with a hefty bill of ~$4700 (x-rays, blood work, ultrasound, and all her medications). Despite the cost, we still went through with it because we absolutely adore sweet baby Suzy and want her to keep living on and building a life with us, her mom, and her siblings.
Sweet baby Suzy is still fighting for her life as I type this and it breaks my heart. She is still very lethargic, not eating, and severely bloated. Our hearts ache for her dearly, but she is still holding on and so are we.
We've never asked for help before, especially in difficult times like this, but any love and support would be greatly appreciated. Every donation will go directly towards her lifesaving treatment and ongoing care. Any amount, any share, and any kind word means the world to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read baby Suzy’s story and for helping us give our sweet girl a chance at the life she deserves.
We love you so much, Suzy ♡
