My name is SuzyQ, and I never imagined I would be in this position. After moving upstate, I hoped to find work and settle into a new chapter, but my health took a turn for the worse. I have never smoked, but I was diagnosed with heart failure, pulmonary failure, COPD, and asthma. I now have a small pacemaker and rely on an oxygen machine 24/7. It’s still unbelievable to me that I’m this sick, and it’s been a difficult adjustment.
Because of my health, I can no longer work. My mother and I are living off social security, which barely covers our basic needs. We’re struggling to pay for heating oil, and the bills keep piling up. We also need to move to a house with lower taxes to make ends meet. On top of that, I have to travel frequently to Columbia Presbyterian in NYC to see my pulmonologist, and I’ve already had 11 hospital stays in 2025. The costs are overwhelming, and I worry about how we’ll get by.
I’m so sorry to be asking for help, but I don’t have any family left to turn to. I know and adore many of you, and I hope you can find it in your hearts to support us during this difficult time. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and thank you for your kindness and generosity.
