Support Suzee's Fight for Fenrir's Recovery

UPDATE FROM SUZEE 7/2- Fenrir went back in for emergency surgery last night.. he had intussusception in two different spots this time. Dr Chris has never seen something like that before and is convinced there is some kind of parasite or bacteria causes all of these issues. He had to remove most of Fenrir’s intestines this time.. While he was in there, he tacked his stomach to stop it from flipping in the future because clearly his insides are VERY angry. He also developed pancreatitis which makes sense because everything inside is out of whack.

Please keep praying and sharing his gofundme. He has his whole life ahead of him and it breaks my heart to see this puppy go thru this.

UPDATE 7/1 - poor Fenrir had to have ANOTHER surgery!!
Update from Suzee - I feel so defeated and helpless. Fenrir has inssusception AGAIN.. this time is a different spot. Baby boy can’t catch a break.
I just want to cry. I hate seeing him like this.
Thank you for everyone who has donated to his growing medical bills.

My name is Liz and I’ve been friends with Suzee for over 10 years. Suzee has ALWAYS been a selfless animal lover and willing to help ANY animal or owner in need. She has helped foster numerous animals and helped the animals in any way she can over all the years I’ve known her. She is a WONDERFUL ambassador for ethical animal training and ownership. I met her fiancée Eren earlier this year and he holds the same passion and love for animals that Suzee does!

Recently her 5 month old Shiloh Shepherd, Fenrir, had to under go a VERY expensive surgery to save his life. Fenrir had bowel Intussusception and without emergency surgery, he would have died. Suzee did not hesitate to put everything she had towards saving Fenrir.

Although Fenrir is doing well after surgery, the cost was extensive, and I think raising some funds to cover the medical bills would give Suzee some peace of mind and one less thing to worry about. Between the multiple ER vets and the vet hospital that ultimately completed the surgery, they’re currently looking at over $12,000 in vet bills.

Fenrir is on the road to recovery, let’s help by giving his pawrents one less thing to worry about!

From Suzee’s Facebook Updates:
Since everyone is asking I figured I’d share.

Thursday morning Fenrir ate about half of his breakfast. Poops were soft but not runny, he had got a lot of treats because we celebrated Odin’s birthday so it was expected. He generally eats half of his food and then eats the other dogs’ before going back to eat his so I wasn’t that concerned.

Lunchtime came and he didn’t want to eat. Not a big deal, he’s getting older and will only be fed twice a day soon anyway. I was training him in the afternoon so I figured I’d just feed him treats then so he has something in his stomach. He was being super picky with the treats he normally loves but he ate a few. After a half hour, he vomitted the treats and some bile. I chalked it up to him not eating his lunch and now his stomach was super empty. He threw up bile twice more.

We headed home and I made boiled chicken and rice with electrolytes for the dogs for dinner. He wanted no part of it. I tried just the chicken and he still snubbed it. I was like is he just being picky or does he not feel good? So I got a hot dog and he turned his nose up to it. Definitely not normal. He proceeded to throw up bile 4 more times until it was just foamy saliva. He also was not his normal goofy self… I knew something was wrong.

Immediate concern is bloat, but his stomach wasn’t hard and distended. I then was worried it could be a partial bowel obstruction if he ate something he shouldn’t have. Unlikely but still possible as he is a puppy. So I rushed him to the emergency vet for xrays. I knew he would be dehydrated from everything which was a huge concern too. First emergency vet did xrays and an ultrasound which was inconclusive but they leaned towards insussusception. He had no fever and his gums looked good at that point, but they can go downhill quick.

Intussusception is essentially when the intestine overlaps itself, and basically their intestine tries to digest itself. It causes an obstruction so nothing can pass and everything backs up. In turn, a tear can happen which will leak liquid waste into his body which will cause sepsis and it can kill them. Once that happens, it’s a death sentence as there is only so much you can do.

So the vet said he needs overnight ICU care and recommended me taking him to another emergency vet an hour away to be admitted. In the morning when the radiologist came in, he did another ultrasound which concluded he does have intussusception. They monitored him and gave him fluids. The surgery was quoted at at least 10k.

My breeder and mentor Jan told me to take him to her vet who is in Blairstown. 2 hours away from the vet he was at. The hospital he was at also said they high advised me not to take him to another vet as if there was a tear it could make it worse being in the car. Though he was stable at that point, he was in a LOT of pain.

I talked to Jan’s vet friend, and he was certain he could fix it and has seen many cases. I felt good after talking to him so I took him the 2 hour drive north. He went into surgery after they confirmed it was definitely intussusception by ultrasound.

The vet and his team came in on their day off to do the surgery. He said Fenrir is super lucky because it happened where the large intestine meets the small, and the small lodged itself inside the large intestine. There was a tear but it ended up being held together which stopped it from leaking because of the intussusception. He removed about 8” of dead intestine.

Intussception happens mostly to puppies because they have more sensitive digestice tracks. So if they have a lot of diarrhea from whatever is causing it, the intestine basically just slips and gets stuck. Vomitting a lot cause also trigger it because you are retching. Generally with puppies it can be caused by bacteria that irritates the intestine. The intestine basically tries to digest itself. It’s extremely dangerous and painful. Worms, parasites, coccidia, giardia, parvo, they all cause diarrhea. Puppies are way more susceptible.

Fenrir pulled thru surgery thanks to the AMAZING team at North Warren Animal Hospital. ♥️♥️♥️ Dr. Chris saved his life and I will forever be grateful. He is one lucky pup. Thank you Jan Santini and Maureen Riehl Albertson for keeping me sane today after over 36 hours with no sleep.

Christopher Thomas Corrado and Brittany Gruver you are both amazing.. this incredible team gave up their day off to do emergency surgery to save my baby boy. You really can’t compete with Chris and his shorts/flip flop attire. I am beyond impressed with this animal hospital. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you, my love, Eren Cansunar for supporting financially to save our boy’s life until I can figure out how to pay for the last few days. It has been a very expensive week.
