On December 11th, Suzanne Carpenter, my cousin, is facing one of the toughest battles of her life. Not long ago, she was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma—a type of kidney cancer. Years ago, Suzanne lost the function of her left kidney due to renal atrophy from severe endometriosis, so her right kidney has been doing all the work. Now, a tumor is growing into her only functioning kidney, making her situation even more complicated and urgent.
The surgery Suzanne needs at the Cleveland Clinic is both complex and risky. Doctors will have to remove the tumor and then surgically reconnect the upper and lower segments of her kidney. After the surgery, her treatment options will depend on the results, but chemo is not an option for this type of cancer. She may need dialysis, radiation, immunotherapy, or even a kidney transplant in the future. Throughout all of this, Suzanne has been unable to work, and the financial burden of traveling for surgery and treatment is heavy for her and her family.
We are reaching out for help to cover the costs of travel, meals, and lodging as Suzanne and her family make the trip to the Cleveland Clinic. Your support would mean the world to Suzanne and our family during this difficult time. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to easing her burden and making sure she gets the care she needs. Thank you for standing with us.
