Hi everyone! My name is Shayne and my brothers and I are raising funds for our mom who shattered her kneecap on Christmas Eve 2025. We all appreciate you taking the time to read about our fundraiser.
Our mom—Suzanne Redard—was about to leave our home to give 2 boxes full of dog toys to her friend who volunteers at a dog shelter, but on this rainy Christmas Eve she slipped right outside our front door and landed directly on her left knee. She instantly dislocated and shattered her left kneecap. She was screaming in pain and we immediately called 911. It was really scary for our family and seeing her in that much pain was something we never expected to happen, especially on Christmas Eve.
The ambulance eventually arrived and transported our mom to the hospital where they set her knee back into place. An xray of her knee revealed she needed surgery to repair her fractured kneecap. Her leg remained in a knee immobilizer brace for almost 3 weeks until her surgery on January 13, 2026.
The weeks pass and our mom finally had surgery to repair her knee. The doctors told us that the recovery process will take about 7 to 8 months. Thankfully, she began physical therapy February 10, 2026. At this rate, she won't be able to work until about August. Our family usually depends on both of our parents working to help pay for everything, so this has made things really difficult for us. Medical bills and physical therapy are starting to add up and at the same time we still have normal expenses like mortgage, utilities, groceries, and other bills that don't stop just because something like this happens.
In addition to this, our mom started taking care of our 88 year old paternal grandfather days before her accident. He had just come home in California from being hospitalized from having bladder cancer and needed assistance with everyday things like moving around the house, showering, preparing food and getting to and from doctor appointments. As a loving daughter-in-law, she immediately stepped in and drove all the way to his house in California to take him back to our home in Las Vegas, so that she can help take care of him. She has always been the kind of person who puts everyone else’s needs first. Now with her injury, we have been taking care of both our mom along with our grandfather.
Balancing taking care of both our mom and our grandfather has been challenging for our family, but we are doing everything we can to support them both during this time. My brothers and I have been taking turns staying home to help them both, especially helping our mom around the house, assisting with her at-home physical therapy, and taking her to her appointments. In order for us to do this, we sometimes have to miss work ourselves.
We made this GoFundMe because we want to help take some of the stress off our mom and our family during this time. Any donation no matter how big or small, would mean a lot to us and would help with medical bills and basic living costs
while she recovers. If you can't donate, sharing this would still help our family more than you know.
Thank you for taking the time to read our mom’s story and supporting our mom while she heals!
