TL;DR: On Christmas Eve, my cat Susu was rushed to the emergency vet with a dangerously high fever. I’m raising funds to help cover her $1,200 emergency vet bill and afford further testing to find the cause.
On Christmas Eve, Susu suddenly started showing signs that something was seriously wrong. Because it was a holiday and all regular vet offices were closed, I had to rush her to the emergency vet.
When we arrived, Susu’s temperature was 104°F, which is extremely dangerous for cats. A preliminary exam didn’t reveal an obvious cause, so the vet recommended a urinalysis to rule out common issues. Those results came back negative. To help bring her fever down, the vet advised keeping her at the clinic for several hours on fluids.
We spent over five hours at the emergency vet on Christmas Eve, anxiously waiting. Thankfully, the fluids worked and Susu’s temperature came down. She was diagnosed with Fever of Unknown Origin and sent home with a three-day supply of NSAIDs and instructions to closely monitor her temperature.
Over the following days, Susu’s temperature has remained stable, which is a huge relief. However, we’re still in an unknown. Without further testing, we don’t know what caused the fever or if it could return.
The emergency vet visit, which included the exam, equipment fees, urinalysis panel, and hospital stay with fluids, totaled nearly $1,200. Once the urinalysis came back negative, the vet recommended a full blood panel to look for underlying issues, but that test would cost an additional $600+. I was recently laid off and didn’t have the funds to move forward with it at the time. The clinic also did not offer payment plans, so I had to put the entire visit on a credit card just to make sure Susu received care.
I’m asking for help covering the $1,200 emergency bill, and if possible, raising enough to get Susu the blood work she still needs so we can understand what caused this and prevent it from happening again.
Susu is nine years old, and I adopted her four years ago. She is my absolute best friend. She loves bird TV, watching squirrels from the window, catnip, anything that sounds like plastic, and trapping me in bed every morning by curling up on top of me. She’s been my constant companion, especially during difficult times, and I want to do everything I can to keep her healthy and safe.
Any donation or share means more than I can say. Thank you for taking the time to read Susu’s story and for supporting us. <3
