My sister, Susie, is a diabetic. She takes insulin for her diabetes, however, recently she got an infection which resulted in the loss of her right foot up to just below the knee. Approximately 12 years ago she lost her big toe to another infection. This one was much worse. Susie walks everywhere, and her medical "boot" broke while walking through the snow. She was wearing cleats at the time, which pierced the foot when the boot broke. That's what caused the infection. Doctors were unable to save her foot, however, she is a candidate for a prosthetic, once she heals completely.
The funds will be used for two things she will need in order to function at home. Number one...a stair lift. And number two...a handicapped accessible bathtub. Susie will live with our Mom, who has a row home that only has an upstairs bathroom. She helps care for our Mom, so the stair lift and handicapped accessible bathtub would benefit both of them.
Right now, Susie is at the Stine Inpatient Rehabilitation Center Schuylkill in Pottsville, receiving daily physical therapy and occupational therapy. She is doing great! I just want her to be able to come home and live life as normally as possible. Her surgery was on December 12, and in that time she has met so many goals that her therapists have set for her.
My goal is to be able to make the necessary changes to the house so both Susie and my mom (who is 88 now) can stay in our homestead if possible. Any amount you can donate will help offset the cost. Thank you ❤️
