As those close to me know, I have several autoimmune and rheumatic diseases and have been very ill for many years now. I was covered under my state's Medicaid policy until last summer. I had been in what they called "Choices". It is a program for those who are ill enough or at risk for nursing home placement, but who want to remain in their home. Last summer, they decided that I was no longer ill enough for nursing home placement, so they kicked me out of the program. Sadly, that also meant that I lost my healthcare coverage.

My medical care is VERY expensive. The most expensive part is the biologic medications I receive for my various rheumatic diseases. Currently, my monthly medications run around $10,000. This is not an amount anyone can pay. Some of the drug companies are able to provide lower costs, while others do not. Without these medications, I would not be able to function and could even pass away. Sometimes, I think this is what our government leaders want!

Last summer, with the generosity of many friends, I was able to purchase a plan through the Marketplace. Your generosity helped cover the cost of the plan and deductibles for doctors' appointments, labs, and medications.

In December, Congress did not see fit to continue the healthcare subsidies. At first, this did not allow me to purchase a plan at all. Once Social Security did a cost-of-living increase, my insurance agent, Darla Geiger, was able to find a plan that was more attainable.

Still, I need assistance. I know that many in the US are in the same situation. I feel selfish even asking for funds, but I do not know what other choice I have.
