Support Susie and John in Their Time of Need
Donation protected
Our parents, Susie and John Davis, are two of the most caring, giving, and compassionate individuals in the world. They would go to any lengths for their family and friends, but they rarely seek help when they need it. Unfortunately, they are currently in dire need of assistance, and we, their children, are reaching out to you for support.
On November 14, 2024, Susie underwent back surgery to fuse her spine from S1 (her waist) to T10 (between her shoulder blades) to correct a fractured vertebra. However, during her recovery, the surgery site developed an infection that necessitated three additional surgeries and a two-month hospital stay. Tragically, this infection led to the loss of function in both legs.
The doctors informed us that the T10 vertebra, the one the fusion was anchored to, had been severely weakened and crumbled due to the infection. The screws anchoring the fusion and a piece of bone that was unsafe to remove impinged on her spinal cord. Consequently, there is a high likelihood that she will never regain control of her legs.
We are currently working diligently to bring Mom home, but her recovery will require her to stay in a rehabilitation facility to learn to adapt to her new physical reality. Additionally, their home needs significant modifications to accommodate her wheelchair. This includes installing ramps at the entrance, making the bathroom wheelchair accessible, and widening doorways. They will also require a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for safe transportation to and from appointments. Furthermore, she will need a lift to move from a chair to bed and back. While some medical equipment may be covered by insurance, the home modifications are not and will have to be paid for out of pocket.
John and Susie are retired and on a limited income, making this situation even more challenging. This is where your generous donations come in. Every penny raised will directly contribute to helping them adapt to their new lives and regain their sense of self. A donation to them would be a tremendous gesture of kindness and would make a significant difference in their recovery.
To everyone reading this, even if you choose not to donate, please take a moment to spread the word. We all deeply desire our mom to be back home, as comfortable as possible. She has endured so much, and she deserves every bit of help she can get.
