My name is Elizabeth "Libby," and my brother, Peter, and I are sharing this update about our mom, Susan Bower Wilkins. Over the past several months, we’ve been walking alongside her through a rapid and heartbreaking decline in her health. As her needs have increased, our family has been covering all out-of-pocket caregiving costs, but the expenses have grown beyond what we can sustain on our own. Many people have asked how they can help, which is why we created this page.
So many of you have reached out asking how you can support Susan during this incredibly difficult time. The love surrounding her has been overwhelming, and we are deeply grateful.
Susan is facing advanced cancer, and her health has declined rapidly. Despite everything, she remains feisty, strong-willed, and deeply connected to the life and people she loves — her family, her beloved dog Lio, and her friends who mean the world to her. Her greatest wish is to remain at home, surrounded by familiar comforts, love, and dignity.
As her needs have increased, Susan now requires 24/7 care to stay safe and comfortable. While Medicare helps with medical expenses, it does not cover most in-home caregiving support. These essential services — including overnight care, personal assistance, mobility support, and respite care — are entirely out of pocket and add up quickly.
Our family is supporting the majority of her care. Even so, professional caregivers are crucial. Their support allows Susan to:
Remain safely at home
Be comfortable and supported day and night
Receive help with daily needs and mobility
Give family caregivers the rest needed to continue caring for her well
This fundraiser is a way for those who have asked “How can we help?” to do so in a very tangible way. Every contribution goes directly toward in-home caregiver costs, helping Susan stay comfortable, supported, and surrounded by love during this challenging time.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page, sending a message, or keeping Susan in your thoughts means just as much. Your kindness, generosity, and care are felt more than words can express.
Thank you for being part of Susan’s village.
