My name is Kara, and I am fundraising for Susan Dentino who lived in Maynard, Massachusetts. Susan's home and belongings were destroyed in a house fire on June 4th, 2024. Quite tragically, the fire started in the untouched room of Susan's late son Tony, who passed away unexpectedly in 2022 at the age of 22.
Around midnight on June 4th, Susan and her family awoke to intense heat and thick smoke while sleeping. Her family escaped the house with one of their two dogs, as they could not locate the second in the smoke. A Maynard Police Officer bravely entered the fire to find the puppy still inside the house but sustained injury and was unable to do so. Acton Firefighter Sean Sheridan then entered the home to search for and, thankfully, rescue the puppy, who was provided with first aid and is doing well. The firefighters eventually extinguished the fire, but sadly, the next day, the fire reignited.
Susan is our son's CASE Bus Driver. She drives him and other children with disabilities to school, often driving children with complex needs long distances to special education schools around Massachusetts. Despite the devastating fire, Susan's resilience shone through. Just a week later, she was back at work as a CASE Bus Driver, ensuring that children with disabilities could continue their school programs. She likely would not have mentioned the house fire if our son hadn't asked her where she had been the last few days, probably because he missed her. Her punctuality and warm greetings are a testament to her unwavering spirit.
Please join me in supporting Susan and her family following this devastating loss.
