Support Susanne's Journey to Mobility and Independence
Donation protected
My wife of 39 years, Susanne, just had her leg amputated below the knee as a result of a runaway infection in her foot due to her diabetes. She retired after more than 20 years of working as a CNA in the home health field. We never imagined that we would find ourselves in this situation.
She will be coming home soon after acute rehab and learning how to deal with this new reality. The goal is to have her fitted with a prosthetic device by September and back to near full mobility so she can prepare her standard Thanksgiving Feast for our family. However, between now and then, she will need the use of a wheelchair when going out for doctor and therapy sessions.
Our home is mostly handicap accessible, and we have been able to obtain most of the things she is going to need through insurance, but we are living on a fixed income that barely meets our day-to-day needs and do not have the resources to get a wheelchair ramp installed at the entrance of our home.
I have found a vendor online that sells an ADA-compliant modular ramp that will meet our needs with free shipping for under $2,500. Any help to meet that cost will be forever appreciated.
