Hi, I'm Suzy, and I'm reaching out for support during an upcoming medical journey that will keep me out of work for several months.

My Health Journey
Many of you followed my health struggles with Ulcerative Colitis, which resulted in the removal of my colon and getting an ileostomy in 2018—a surgery that saved my life! While it was a huge adjustment, it increased my quality of life 100x. However, it does mean I am always at risk of hernias behind that site.
In 2023, a hernia did occur, which caused a small intestinal blockage and resulted in an emergency open abdominal surgery. This surgery further increased my risk of developing more hernias. In late 2024, I became aware of two hernias that had developed . When I saw a surgeon about them, they recommended significant weight loss before repairing the hernias to give them the best chance of not happening again.
For the past year, I've been working through the Bariatric Program at Northern Light with the goal of weight-loss surgery.

On January 13th, I'll be undergoing gastric sleeve surgery—not for cosmetic reasons, but as this medically necessary first step. Once I've lost enough weight over the next six months, I'll be able to safely have the two hernias repaired: one in my stomach and another behind my ostomy site.

My Family
I work part-time at a local farm so that I can homeschool my daughter, Briar, who is autistic. Public school wasn't the right fit for her, and homeschooling has allowed us to create a learning environment where she can truly thrive. My husband, Jeff, works full-time to support our family, and together we make it work.

Why I'm Asking for Help
Because I work part-time, I don't have paid time off or sick leave. While I'm incredibly grateful that my insurance covers the surgery itself, I'll be unable to work for several months during recovery. During this time, we still need to cover my lost income and pay our mortgage, electric bills, groceries, and other essential expenses.
I truly hate asking for money—it's not easy for me. But I want to ease some of the financial pressure on my family. Jeff will be working full-time, caring for Briar, and helping me through recovery. Any support we receive will allow him to focus on our family without the added stress of wondering how we'll make ends meet.

How You Can Help
Any contribution, no matter the size, will help us cover basic living expenses while I focus on healing and getting back on my feet. I've also created an Amazon wishlist with items that will help with my recovery if you would like to help that way.

If you're unable to contribute financially, I completely understand- times are tough! But your prayers, best wishes, positive vibes, and sharing this campaign mean the world to me.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. Your support in any form is deeply appreciated.
With gratitude,
Susannah
