Support Susan's Medical Journey to Fight Cancer

This fund is being set up for Susan and Rick Ennis and their family to help support their fight against Susan’s journey with brain cancer. Susan is an amazing daughter, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend and everyone who knows Susan or who has had the privilege to meet her knows how her smile and personality can light up a room.
On November 11, 2018, the lives of Susan and her family changed forever. Rick woke up to find Susan suffering from severe seizures and immediately called 911. Susan was rushed to the HSC in Winnipeg, MB and was admitted into emergency. Family members rushed to Winnipeg, MB to be with Susan. After a preliminary MRI several growths were found deep in her brain and a subsequent CT scan and biopsy were scheduled. Several days later when Susan was well enough for surgery the biopsy was scheduled and turned into a nine-hour surgery, where the worst prognosis was realized, Stage 4, Glioblastoma Multiforme. Since the diagnosis and the news of a 12 to 18-month prognosis the family has been on a journey that includes many paths.
The family has been on a search for Canadian experts in the field of Glioblastoma. With such a severe diagnosis for Susan, they want to seek out and confirm leading expert opinions and treatment options with the overall goal of having the best treatment and quality of life for Susan. This search has led Susan to travel to Toronto for a second opinion and gain information on clinical trials with a doctor considered a leader in Glioblastoma research in Canada. From this meeting it was learned that a clinical trial led by the Toronto Cancer Center may open in Winnipeg, MB, potentially allowing Susan to participate while staying at home. This is great news and Susan will be kept up to date if and when this trial opens in the near term.
Susan is now in her first round of standard treatment at Cancer Care Manitoba and the family has turned their efforts to seeking and following up on options including alternative treatments that will hopefully give Susan the best chance at increasing her quality of life. Much of the treatments available other than standard radiation and chemotherapy are unfortunately not covered by provincial or private drug plans and costs are creeping up. The family has also made inquiries into other treatments available, particularly in the United States as they are more advanced in the fight against this incurable disease.
Due to this prognosis Susan is unable to work and her daughter has relocated her family back to Manitoba from British Columbia to be by her and Rick's side at this time of need. Being of such a young age the family wants to ensure that they have done everything in their power to give Susan the best option to extend and enhance the quality of life she has now, for as long as they can.
This fundraiser will help the Ennis family pay for the unexpected costs of this disease which includes the opportunity to act on the alternative treatments that are out there, that may not be available to them without our love and support.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for any contribution you can make to help Susan and her family.
